Biomass
Pros and Cons of Biomass Energy
2012-03-08
We all are well aware about the fuel crisis situation which is entire planet is facing. If we analyze the amount of traditional fuel or energy source available to us and the rate at which we are consuming them, we will find that entire source is bound to get vanished by the next decade if we proceed at this rate.

Due to these reasons many philosophers have predicted a world war very soon, on the issue of fuel. So we have limit the usage of these conventional fuels and look for some alternatives which can be renewed quite soon and hence has no problem on the usage quantity, as fossil fuels really need several millions of years to get replenished which is indeed sufficient long time Biomass Energy Cons.

Some of the names which can be used as a common alternative to these conventional fuels are bio diesel, ethanol, butanol, chemically stored electricity (batteries and fuel cells), hydrogen, methane, natural gas, wood, vegetable oil, biomass, and peanut oil. These sources are renewable and can be replenished at a quite faster rate. Renewable sources of energy include solar, wind, tidal, hydropower and others. Due to scarcity of the non-renewable resources we have to resort to renewable resources as much as possible.

Also non-renewable fuels when burnt produce plenty of smoke and other greenhouse gases which are then responsible for the global warming which the entire facing is facing a treat of. The major advantage of renewable sources is that they burn clear and there is no harmful byproduct. Thus the emission of poisonous gases like Carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides etc are thus reduced. It has also been found that alternative fuels are more efficient and also lubricates the engine parts.

Apart of the many advantages the major disadvantage of alternative fuels are that to make the industry compatible with this fuel can really need huge monetary support. Even if there is this disadvantage still to save our future, we have to resort to using alternative fuels or else very soon we would be fighting among ourselves for fuel%u2026

In the present times the fuel which we are generally consuming as an energy source to fulfill our daily and regular energy requirements are petroleum, coal, kerosene, propane and natural gas. If we notice then we will find that all of them are non-renewable and hence when we use a single drop of such energy it means that drop can be replenished after several thousands of years only Biomass Energy Pros.

This has also contributed a lot to one of the biggest problem of mankind, the global warming as due to urbanization and industrialization we are gradually depleting our non-renewable resources. So to save our planet, we have to go for the renewable sources, which we commonly neglect. It is obvious that the sun is the source of energy, and the solar power which is very much abundant in hotter nations, is is said to be a renewable source of energy.

Solar energy can be converted into electrical energy with the help of solar panels and if it is executed in large scale the total cost will go much lower than that using non-renewable resources. The other forms of renewable energy sources are biomass sources, chemical energy, vegetable oils and bio diesel. These not only provide us the renewably energy sources but also highly beneficial to the environment.

Another form of energy is the wind power. Power can be generated through wind turbines. These turbines, when exposed to the high speed winds,  rotate at its full speed and thus generate power like other turbine. Green energy refers to the power that is produced by wind and this will be produced at various places where there are strong winds that are blowing.

Hydropower or energy from water is also a renenwable form of energy. When water fall from a large height, the turbines start to rotate and convert the stored potential energy of waters into electric energy. These energy sources are very cheap and are very friendly. These energy sources that are being used will save not only the earth but also the lives of people. So being a human, we are really responsible to protect not only our self but most of our entire planet.

People now a day need fuel to produce electricity since electricity is a fundamental pillar to all modern society.

Using Biomass Power
Biomass is useful in describing such natural and biological materials which are commonly used in the production of electricity. Biomass includes different types of fuels from garbage, landfill and ethanol. The production of electricity from biomass is used to power different things from industries to homes.

The common types of biomass can be found in many forms. Products of wood things similar to lawn clippings, leftover wood scraps from lumber production, wood chips, leaves as well as dead tress are also one such form. People use garbage products to burn as fuel or landfill gases that are formed when garbage rots. The fossil fuel replacements which is the Ethanol and biodiesel are made from either corn or biomass fuel for the purpose of producing electricity.

Landfill gas which is commonly referred the biogas or methane is usually gathered by landfill owners. Even farmers collect it to be used as fuel. When burning, this fuel can be used to generate electricity by conversion process or you can simply use it as heating fuel. In the world's climate this day, both ethanol and biodiesel are very interesting where they are both used in powering cars as well as other vehicles. Both are very clean burning fuel rather than fossil fuels and also affordable to produce since they are from waste that is easy to find. Both of these forms of fuel are biodegradable that is safe for the environment.

The concept of using the electricity biomass as a power platform seems to be a little tough job looking at the present scenario. More research is needed to be done to know the efficient usage of these biofuels.

Biomass is the best available resources in our present times. The electricity from biomass which is an energy platform is definitely a concept which is coming into its own.

So try using these renewable sources as the other sources of energy are on the verge of extinction...

Organic matter like various kinds of fuels which include wood chippings, waste from the garden, corn, hemp, willow and numerous other substances which could be living or freshly dead products that can be utilized to produce heat or electricity are together called %u201Cbiomass%u201D. This is becoming very popular and getting worldwide acceptance day by day.

UK as well as the rest of the world is ready to go for alternatives like biomass which decrease dependence on evidently highly polluting fossil fuel like oil and gas, which are also running out of supply. UK%u2019s independence for long time makes it presently dependent on other nations for fuel supply which are not in its control while biomass gives it control on fuel source within its boundaries.

Now-a-days in UK, farmers are making money from willow crop, which is a fuel crop and unlike food, crops can use human waste as its fertilizer further adding to recycling resources. Human waste is forbidden by law to be used as fertilizer for food crops in UK.

Though biomass is given the status of renewable fuel, using it would continue to add to global warming as the equilibrium of natural carbon is altered which includes cutting trees, expansion of human residence into green zones etc. Biomass used as fuel places equally high levels of CO2 into the global atmosphere.

It is from the atmospheric cycle of carbon that biomass takes up CO2 which is used for its growth. It is this carbon from CO2 that accounts for about fifty percent of its content in dry state. When used as fuel it releases carbon back into the atmosphere in form of CH4 (methane) or CO2 based on its fate in the end and thus finishes the cycle.

Although biomass continues to add to global warming, it can still be argued that we use it. It is much better choice keeping in view the depleting and highly polluting fossil fuels. If its use can be widened to include various other activities of daily routine it will definitely become a very strong armor to counter global warming and save our fragile planet.
